Application of polyethylene strip reinforced soils in
geotechnical engineering

Abstract
This paper presents several experimental results
derived for polyethylene strip reinforced soils. First, standard
direct shear tests were performed to asses applicability of scrap
bottles as a potential soil reinforcement. The effect of amount, shape
and size of the reinforcement was considered. Positive influence of
the reinforcement on shear resistance observed for small laboratory
specimens was further supported by results obtained during in situ
measurements of reinforced gravel piles processed using the Franki
technology
