Abstract

A multilayered plate element is derived to study the behavior of laminated plates under various thermal and mechanical loading conditions. Mathematical formulation of the element matrices originates from the refined plate theory developed by Mau. The theory relies on Mindlin's kinematic assumptions with independent approximation of in-plane displacements of each layer. A very accurate representation of both in-plane and out of plane stresses resulted from this formulation is demonstrated on several examples.
